As Ingela Perry, Practice Administrator at Martha Eliot Health Center and MLK Observance Committee member, notes, 'Martin Luther King taught me that leadership is about what the people take away when you're gone.' He motivated people to face their fears and never give up, envisioning a world where his children and others would not be judged by the color of their skin.

Our leaders at Joining Hands Health Center are inspired by Dr. King's unwavering commitment to justice and equality. Shani Kelly, Operations Administrator and Executive Assistant at Human Resources and MLK Observance Committee member, says, 'Martin Luther King refused to sit back and live in injustice.' He drew strength from his convictions and inspired thousands of people to join him in the fight for civil rights.

At Joining Hands Health Center, we continue this legacy by bringing together people from all backgrounds to celebrate Dr. King's birthday every January. What started as a small gathering has grown into a large event that typically draws standing-room-only crowds. In 2020, attendance shot up to almost 1,000, and when the pandemic forced the cancellation of large gatherings, we moved the event online.

Our leaders understand the importance of creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. As Karol Jordan says, 'I always want people to feel that they can come to me and be treated with respect.' By doing so, we cultivate a sense of community and belonging among our staff, patients, and partners.
